2016 Race News
The Prairie du Chien Half Marathon & 5K Race are exciting additions to spring, and participants have come from across the country (and the world!) to run or walk in the races, held annually on the first Saturday in May. This would be the tenth year for us to welcome tourists and to provide local residents with family-friendly, health-focused events.
Our very small, but dedicated core team of volunteers has consistently given time, energy, and resources to make the race a reality, regardless of our own challenges or time constraints. Our goal has always been to conduct an enjoyable, safe event for all participants, and to provide an economic boost to the area economy.
This year has presented us with unique challenges, mostly due to elderly parents and/or extended family with serious health needs. After consulting with several key individuals and organizations within the community, the organizational team decided to cancel the 2016 race, with hopes of a return to another exciting race weekend the first Saturday in May 2017.
This was a hard decision for us, but we are not willing to compromise the level of safety or excellence that our participants have grown to expect. The need for us to be fully available to care for family members must take priority. With that in mind, we have decided, as a team, to take 2016 off and not conduct the event(s). It is our hope that we could resume the races in 2017 and join with the community to welcome athletic tourists from across the country.
Though the races will not be held this year, we will continue to support the Prairie du Chien Youth Track Team to encourage a new generation of runners.
Thank you to all of our participants, sponsors, and volunteers. We appreciate you! Contact us at anytime throughout the year at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to see you again in 2017 for another fun-filled race weekend. Until then, run happy!
All the Best,
